A service outage that affected GTA TeleGuam mobile customers from Thursday afternoon until early Friday morning was part of a worldwide software problem for users in Britain, Japan and Guam, according to GTA.
Voice and data service was disrupted, starting about 3 p.m. Thursday. Voice service was restored within a couple of hours, but data service was not fully restored until early Friday morning. Some phones on the GTA network were affected, while others did not lose service at all.
“The issue was due to faulty software deployed by mobile network equipment maker Ericcson,” according to GTA, which said the problem impacted 13 worldwide networks with millions of smartphone users.
“We apologize for (Thursday’s) wireless outage affecting voice and data services,” GTA stated in a written release.
“Thanks to all of our customers for their patience and understanding, it gave us much-needed time to fix the problems as quickly as we could,” said GTA President and Chief Executive Roland Certeza.
